Vintage “pala” or “chaput” kilims, as they are known in Turkish, are flatweave rugs hand-made from unraveled fabrics of cotton and mixed fiber blends. Chaput weaving was an old tradition in Asia Minor (Turkey) born from the need to reuse old textiles, merging what was at hand into unique functional pieces of craftsmanship. Nomadic weavers usually used narrow looms and sewn together the panels to form a two, sometimes three winged reversible area rugs. Eco-friendly and creative, each chaput kilim is unique in its coloring and hues because fabrics were employed in their original colors.

I was hesitant to purchase a rug from pictures on line. The colors within the rug were critical to me. Kilim.com upon my request for more color info, took additional pictures with crayons and paint swatches sitting on the carpet. That solidified my choice.
