Patchwork Kilim Rug 6' 8" x 9' 10" (80" x 118")

Colorful patchwork rug created from vintage Turkish "chaput" fragments. Vintage “pala” or “chaput” kilims, as they are called in Turkish, are flatweaves hand made from recycled fabrics made of cotton wool and goat hair. They were woven on narrow looms and the panels were carefully sewn together afterwards to form a two, sometimes three winged reversible area rugs. Chaput weaving was an old tradition in Asia Minor (Turkey) born from the need to reuse old textiles, merging what was at hand into unique decorative pieces of craftsmanship.
Eco-friendly and creative, they were used as runners, area rugs or bed covers. Since the fabric was not redyed, but employed in its original color, each chaput kilim is unique in its coloring and hues. This 6' 8" x 9' 10" (80" x 118") patchwork is backed with cotton fabric as reinforcement.
