Fresh off the looms of Kars in Eastern Turkey, these new hand-knotted rugs celebrate the quiet beauty of village weaving. They’re made primarily from natural, undyed wool hand-spun by local villagers, which gives the surface a matte, organic look and that subtle “alive” texture you only get from yarn that isn’t factory-uniform. Traditional Anatolian/Caucasian inspired motifs, medallions, protective symbols, stylized florals, and tribal borders—are reinterpreted in a calm, earthy palette.

Design and Motif Details

This rug highlights an earthy palette primarily composed of warm beige and sandy brown tones, punctuated by subtle accents of soft white, muted coral, and gentle gray. The design centers around two large geometric medallions which anchor the composition. These medallions reflect a traditional Anatolian style with stepped edges and intricate internal patterns incorporating floral and abstract motifs common to the region's weaving legacy.

  • Geometric Medallions: Often symbolizing protection and unity, these shapes bring a foundational focus to the rug. The stepped edges suggest a fortress-like defense, a motif woven into Anatolian rugs to convey safety and strength.
  • Eye Motifs: Found between the medallions, these resemble the "evil eye" symbol, historically believed to offer warding off of negative energy and ill intentions. This motif associates with protection and spiritual well-being.
  • Triangle Borders: Along the sides, white triangular shapes with detailed inner motifs provide rhythm and frame the design. Triangles in Anatolian weaving often represent mountains or women’s fertility, turning the border into a symbolic guard that also expresses abundance and continuity.
  • Cross and Tree Symbols: Scattered across the field, these unpredictable placements evoke feelings of growth, life, and connection. Trees are symbolic of life’s cycle and resilience, while small crosses can refer to the four cardinal directions or a balance between different forces.

These motifs together present a narrative from the weaver's culture blending protection, fertility, life, and balance. The palette’s neutrality ensures the motifs feel cozy and grounded instead of overwhelming, encouraging a calm, inviting atmosphere.

Integration with Interior Design Styles

  • Modern Minimalist: The subdued, earthy colors and geometric structure of the rug provide a warm, grounding contrast to minimalist interiors dominated by sleek lines and whites. It introduces subtle texture and visual interest without clashing with the clean aesthetic.
  • Bohemian: Its traditional motifs and handcrafted appearance fit perfectly into bohemian spaces, where eclectic layering of patterns and natural materials create a relaxed, worldly vibe. The muted tones balance the often vibrant and colorful décor common in boho style.
  • Scandinavian: This rug blends seamlessly with Scandinavian interiors thanks to its simple yet meaningful design and gentle, natural color scheme. It complements the typical whites and light woods, injecting warmth and storytelling into the space.
  • Rustic and Farmhouse: The warmth of the browns and the handcrafted feel of the rug enhance rustic interiors, pairing beautifully with distressed woods and vintage furniture. Its motifs add a traditional, artisan touch that deepens the cozy, lived-in atmosphere.
  • Eclectic and Transitional: The rug’s blend of classic and whimsical motifs bridges traditional and contemporary elements well, making it ideal for eclectic or transitional spaces that mix old with new. It serves as a unifying piece that adds depth without dominating.

Rolling Up

This rug combines traditional Anatolian symbolism with a modern, earthy color palette, making it highly versatile across various interior design styles. The protective and life-affirming motifs bring rich cultural meaning while enhancing the emotional warmth of any room. Whether set in minimalist, bohemian, Scandinavian, rustic, or eclectic spaces, it integrates smoothly, acting as both a visual anchor and a narrative thread connecting décor elements. Its subtle sophistication and symbolic depth invite homes to feel more grounded, balanced, and connected to heritage.

Colors may appear slightly different across various monitors due to screen settings device differences, and external lighting conditions. Greetings to you at Kilim.com in Istanbul and hoping this finds you fairly well despite all the craziness throughout the world. The Kilim I ordered JUST This Week!!! already arrived an hour ago at my home in Los Angeles. I eagerly unpacked it because of course it's always a gamble to buy things on the internet, not only because it's from people you don't know, but also because sometimes what you see online looks quite different when it arrives (and not because of malfeasance but also because you see so little in a few pictures). But this time I am happy to report and share with you that the kilim I fell in love with from your picture does not disappoint me at all now that it has arrived. MERCIS!

The kilims are very high quality and gorgeous. We are doing some remodeling in our house and faux painting the walls using reds and golds and the colors in the kilims match perfectly. I took one of them to my office one day and now everyone wants one or two! Thanks so much for helping me with the colors. The folks at Kilim.com are not only very professional, but friendly as well. You may be hearing from me again soon.
