Colorful patchwork rug created from vintage Turkish "chaput" fragments. Vintage “pala” or “chaput” kilims, as they are called in Turkish, are flatweaves hand made from recycled fabrics made of cotton wool and goat hair. They were woven on narrow looms and the panels were carefully sewn together afterwards to form a two, sometimes three winged reversible area rugs. Chaput weaving was an old tradition in Asia Minor (Turkey) born from the need to reuse old textiles, merging what was at hand into unique decorative pieces of craftsmanship.

We recently ordered a rug from Kilim.com to replace one that we truly loved but that had become a tripping hazard after years of wear and tear. I ordered what I thought was the best match for a replacement. Shortly after placing my order, I got an email from Ida with additional photos of the rug I had selected, as she wanted to make sure that I was aware that the rug was a bit more green in undertone than had been reflected in the original photos.
