For a contemporary look with abstract appeal, this black over-dyed area rug is skillfully crafted by the revitalization of a genuine hand knotted vintage Turkish rug woven in the 60s or 70s. Woven with wool on cotton foundation, this "distressed" rug measures 5' 1" x 8' 6" (61" x 102"). The process in creating these works of art begins by shearing to lower the pile and to help "distress" them. They then undergo a series of processes to remove the color. They are now ready to be dyed in one color, a stage that can be repeated several times to reach the desired saturation level and hues that complement and contrast the old. In addition to being unique and hand-knotted, these rugs make a very special statement about bridging generations of artisanal skill and knowledge over time. We recently ordered a rug from Kilim.com to replace one that we truly loved but that had become a tripping hazard after years of wear and tear. I ordered what I thought was the best match for a replacement. Shortly after placing my order, I got an email from Ida with additional photos of the rug I had selected, as she wanted to make sure that I was aware that the rug was a bit more green in undertone than had been reflected in the original photos.
