Vintage Turkish Pala Kilim (Chaput) - 5' 7" x 11' 7" (67 in. x 139 in.) - K0057782

Vintage “pala” or “chaput” kilims, as they are called in Turkish, are flatweaves hand made from recycled fabrics made of cotton wool and goat hair. They were woven on narrow looms and the panels were carefully sewn together afterwards to form a two, sometimes three winged reversible area rugs. Chaput weaving was an old tradition in Asia Minor (Turkey) born from the need to reuse old textiles, merging what was at hand into unique decorative pieces of craftsmanship.
Eco-friendly and creative, they were used as runners, area rugs or bed covers. Since the fabric was not redyed, but employed in its original color, each chaput kilim is unique in its coloring and hues. Traditionally, they come in striped or plain patterns in a very diverse color palette, which makes them easy to integrate into any classic or contemporary environment.
This rug was woven as two pieces and then sewn together.
