The most well known of all Kurdish kilims originate from Senna, now called Sanandaj, and its environs. Senna is the present capital of the Iranian Kurdistan and has been, since at least the Safavid era, a town with a sophisticated urban demand for workshop carpets and kilims. This is a a typical Senna kilim with wool on cotton warps and cotton fringes. It has repeating patterns over the whole field. This fine kilim was hand-woven in the early 20th century and in very good condition.
