Vintage kilim rug handwoven in the second half of the 20th century in Sivas, Turkey located in Central Anatolia.

Design and Motifs

This rug showcases a harmonious blend of deep reds, earthy browns, and subtle creams arranged in horizontal bands. The pattern is punctuated by recurring geometric motifs, primarily diamond-shaped medallions, interspersed across the field. Each diamond motif is carefully crafted in alternating colors, creating a dynamic visual rhythm. Thin lines and small linear accents run parallel to the main bands, adding intricate detailing and breaking the monotony with subtle movement.

The diamond motifs hold profound meaning in Anatolian weaving traditions. Often called the "Eye" or "Protection" motif, they symbolize guarding against evil and misfortune. Their repetitive placement reflects a continuous shield around the household, granting safety and good fortune to the inhabitants.

Interwoven with these are smaller linear motifs resembling arrows or branches. These carry connotations of energy, direction, and growth, signifying the weaver’s hopes for progress and vitality. The rich red hues evoke warmth and passion, while the calming browns ground the design in nature and stability.

Integration with Interior Design Styles

  • Rustic: This rug’s earthy tones and handcrafted appearance complement rustic interiors beautifully. Place it alongside wooden furniture and textured fabrics for a cozy, grounded atmosphere that celebrates natural elements.
  • Bohemian: The eclectic and warm pattern fits perfectly within bohemian spaces. Pairing it with layered textiles, vibrant cushions, and plants amplifies the laid-back, globally inspired vibe.
  • Modern Minimalist: While minimalist design favors simplicity, a piece like this rug introduces subtle pattern and color without overwhelming the clean lines. It acts as a focal point adding warmth and tactile interest to a monochrome palette.
  • Eclectic: This rug thrives in layered, curated looks mixing diverse styles. Its bold colors and symbolic motifs bring cultural richness, tying together elements from different eras or regions.
  • Traditional: In traditional interiors, the rug’s timeless motifs echo classical design values. Its handwoven authenticity pairs well with antique furniture and ornate details, enhancing the heritage appeal.

Rolling Up

This kilim embodies a rich story through its protective diamond motifs and vibrant, earth-toned stripes that evoke feelings of warmth and resilience. Designed by artisans who pour their hopes and beliefs into every knot, it fits seamlessly with interiors that range from rustic to modern. By combining meaningful symbolism with versatile aesthetics, this rug transforms any space into one filled with history and heart.

Kilim.com worked closely with us to design, custom fabricate and deliver three patchwork rugs to an overseas client. Their pricing was very reasonable, their quality was exceptional, and their customer service was better in every way than most of the suppliers I work with in the U.S. They far exceeded my expectations, and I look forward to working with them again.

I received the kilim last night, and spent hours gazing it. Sorry for not contacting immediately, I just couldn’t leave from the kilim. It is more than my expectation, which is also expected. What a kilim! Deep and tender colors, lively design and fine weaving. I am so happy and don’t know how to express my gratitude. Your correspondence was very neat and prompt, which gave me no worrying about purchasing the kilim without looking the real. Thank you very much for your kindness and wonderful kilim! Dealing with Kilim.com was my great pleasure, and I would like to do it again soon.

Thank you so much. I can not express how beautiful my pillow covers are and my rug. I am so blessed our paths crossed in my lifetime. Love your sticker on the box. And yes all the items become beloved family members and will be ever cherished for the hard work and talented artisans that created them. Be safe, and blessed.

I am thrilled with my two kilims from Kilim.com. You have the best eye and the best collection. I spent too much money on four other rugs before finding the perfect rugs at your store (again)! Now I know never to go anywhere else. Thank you!

I received the rug today, it’s beautiful. And thank you for the evil eye amulet. I recall very fondly the hospitality of the people in Turkey when I visited Izmit with President Clinton in 1999 after the earthquake. I’m very glad to have this piece in my home to remind me of their warmth and resilience.
