The Marsh Arabs (Ma’dan) from southern Iraq hand-craft these beautifully embroidered kilims. Motifs are geometric patterns often mixed with depictions of women, men and animals. Arabi Kilims are woven on ground looms and embroidered by hand. Originally they serve the purpose of bed covers for the newly wed. They can be used as wall hangings, tablecloth or on the floor in spaces with low/medium traffic. This lovely piece was handwoven in the mid 20th century as two panels and then joined together.
