The most well known of all Kurdish kilims originate from Senna, now called Sanandaj, and its environs. Senna is the present capital of the Iranian Kurdistan and has been, since at least the Safavid era, a town with a sophisticated urban demand for workshop carpets and kilims. This is a typical Senna kilim with wool on cotton warps and cotton fringes. It has repeating floral patterns over the whole field. Senna kilims are usually in small in size, basically slit woven and the colors are predominantly blue, red and white. This fine piece was handwoven in the 70s and is in good condition.
Colors may appear slightly different across various monitors due to screen settings device differences, and external lighting conditions. If color accuracy is important for your space, we recommend viewing the rug on multiple devices or contacting us for a detailed color description. We can provide detailed photos and references using Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, Pantone, or even Crayola crayons.
You can also visualize most of our products in your own room with AR (augmented reality) on an iPhone or iPad.
