  • All of our rugs are professionally cleaned; gentle wear from age and natural irregularities are inherent features of these one-of-a-kind handwoven vintage rugs.
For a contemporary look with a vintage appeal, we source hand-knotted Oriental area rugs woven in the second half of the 20th century that are in excellent condition and carefully trim the piles to achieve an eye-catching “distressed” look. Woven with wool on cotton, this fine Oriental rug measures 9' 5" x 12' 3" (113" x 147"). In addition to being unique and handmade, these rugs make a very special statement about bridging generations of artisanal skill and knowledge over time with a charming look that complements any modern décor.

Design and Motifs

This rug features a vibrant red field dominated by a large central medallion, which radiates intricate floral and geometric patterns. The medallion’s layered design incorporates shades of beige, ivory, and soft blues, balanced by darker accents to create depth and visual interest. Within the interiors of the medallion and across the red field, tiny floral motifs and vine-like tendrils signal fertility, growth, and connection to nature.

The border is richly decorated with complementary motifs, framed by teal and brown bands. The outermost border contains a series of stylized floral and leaf patterns arranged in a repeating sequence, which represent protection and continuity. Interspersed throughout the rug are smaller animal and symbolic motifs, such as birds or abstract floral shapes, that traditionally symbolize happiness, freedom, and abundance.

Many of the motifs trace back to Anatolian weaving traditions where each symbol carries emotional resonance tied to the weaver’s daily life. For example:

  • Central medallion: Acts as a metaphor for the universe’s harmony, centered on balance and unity.
  • Floral motifs: Reflect rejuvenation and the hope for prosperity in every season.
  • Geometric symmetry: Encourages a sense of stability and protection within the home.
  • Border elements: Symbolize permanence and the cycle of life, enclosing and protecting the inner designs.

Integration with Interior Design Styles

This rug’s rich palette and detailed motifs make it highly adaptable across various interior design settings:

  • Traditional: Its antique-inspired look complements classic furniture with dark woods and rich fabrics. The intricate design enhances spaces filled with ornate details and elegant finishes.
  • Bohemian: The vibrant colors and lively patterns blend seamlessly with eclectic décor. Layer it with textiles and cushions featuring diverse textures and patterns to amplify a warm, free-spirited vibe.
  • Modern: Use the rug to add warmth and character against minimalist backdrops with neutral colors and clean lines. The detailed motifs become a focal point in an otherwise understated room.
  • Rustic and Farmhouse: The earthy tones in the borders and the floral themes align perfectly with natural woods and cozy, lived-in furnishings, lending a welcoming and grounded feel.
  • Eclectic: Layer this piece with contemporary and vintage elements for an energetic and curated look. Its complex design invites exploration and discovery in a creatively styled space.

Rolling Up

This rug invites you into a story woven with symbolism that expresses harmony, protection, and growth. Its central medallion and floral motifs communicate timeless hopes and collective connections through intricate, meaningful design. The warm reds and earth tones create a versatile backdrop that integrates well with everything from formal traditional rooms to relaxed bohemian lounges. Its ability to bring both color and cultural depth to any space makes it an extraordinary addition for those seeking to enrich their home with beauty and meaning.

Colors may appear slightly different across various monitors due to screen settings device differences, and external lighting conditions. I have received the Kilims and they are fabulous. The web site photographs were pretty good for color match. The pillows are lovely and will be great on the brick red window seat. Thanks for all of your help and patience. I will pass your site along to fellow textile lovers. Best regards...

I had to write you and let you know that I just got back from my trip, and saw my package from you...........I was VERY anxious to open it, and I just can't tell you how absolutely PERFECT the rugs are! They are just fantastic! These rugs are going in a home in Colorado, and they are exactly what I had wanted. I just cannot believe I was able to find such wonderful, quality hand-woven kilims on a website.......sometimes you really don't know what you're ordering.......and it can be a very anxious time on waiting to receive what you HOPE you think you should be getting. Please let your weavers know they should be VERY proud of their work.......it is simply beautiful, and unlike any other I have seen. I cannot wait for my decorator to see the rugs......I know she will be very impressed! I truly enjoyed working with you, you were so helpful, and VERY dependable.........a MUCH added bonus in the computer-age!
