The most well known of all Kurdish kilims originate from Senna, now called Sanandaj, and its environs. Senna is the present capital of the Iranian Kurdistan and has been, since at least the Safavid era, a town with a sophisticated urban demand for workshop carpets and kilims. This is a a typical Senna kilim with wool on cotton warps and cotton fringes. It has repeating patterns over the whole field. This lovely kilim was hand-woven in the 70's and it is in very good condition.

I was hesitant to purchase a rug from pictures on line. The colors within the rug were critical to me. Kilim.com upon my request for more color info, took additional pictures with crayons and paint swatches sitting on the carpet. That solidified my choice. The rug arrived quickly and the way it was folded and shipped left the rug without marks when placed on the floor. I wasn’t expecting it to be of the quality of my parents’ thick antique Persian rug and it wasn’t . For the price, I’m pleased with this vintage rug. It has more class and personality than a machine made rug you can find at a big box store.

We recently ordered a rug from Kilim.com to replace one that we truly loved but that had become a tripping hazard after years of wear and tear. I ordered what I thought was the best match for a replacement. Shortly after placing my order, I got an email from Ida with additional photos of the rug I had selected, as she wanted to make sure that I was aware that the rug was a bit more green in undertone than had been reflected in the original photos. I told her what we were looking for and sent a couple of photos of the room where it was going and the rug we were looking to replace, and she sent a couple of other options they also had in similar sizes and colors. In the end, we decided to stick with our original choice, and it arrived in South Carolina from Istanbul just days later, true to the photos she had sent.
