It started, like many good things, with a bit of experimentation. Somewhere in Turkey, artisans began reimagining old handwoven rugs—not discarding them, but reviving them. By carefully decolorizing each piece and applying rich, modern dyes, they gave faded designs a second life. What emerged wasn’t just a new look, but an entirely new genre: overdyed rugs.
The process is equal parts restoration and reinvention. Traditional motifs remain visible beneath saturated hues—teal over ochre, magenta over charcoal—like memories surfacing through color. The result is something deeply layered: the warmth of heritage, infused with a contemporary pulse.
At Kilim Studio, we’ve been part of this movement for more than ten years. Our curated collection includes one of the widest selections of hand-knotted overdyed Turkish and Oriental vintage rugs available today. You'll also find bold patchwork variations—meticulously stitched from fragments of different rugs, each piece a story of contrast and cohesion.
