For a contemporary look with abstract appeal, this over-dyed rug is skillfully crafted by the revitalization of a hand-knotted vintage Oriental area rug in Turkey. Woven with wool on cotton in the 1960s, this "distressed" rug measures 9' 6" x 10' 1" (114" x 121").
The process in creating these works of art begins by shearing to lower the pile and to help "distress" them. They then undergo a series of processes to desaturate the color. They are now ready to be dyed in one color, a stage that can be repeated several times to reach the desired saturation level and hues that complement and contrast the old. In addition to being unique and handmade, these Oriental rugs make a very special statement about bridging generations of artisanal skill and knowledge over time. This magnificent transformation can be considered a piece of contemporary art, with a unique look that complements any modern décor.

We recently ordered a rug from Kilim.com to replace one that we truly loved but that had become a tripping hazard after years of wear and tear. I ordered what I thought was the best match for a replacement. Shortly after placing my order, I got an email from Ida with additional photos of the rug I had selected, as she wanted to make sure that I was aware that the rug was a bit more green in undertone than had been reflected in the original photos.
