For a contemporary look with abstract appeal, this over-dyed area rug is skillfully crafted by the revitalization of a genuine hand knotted vintage Turkish rug woven in the 60s or 70s. Woven with wool on cotton foundation, this "distressed" rug measures 3' 1" x 8' 4" (37" x 100"). The process in creating these works of art begins by shearing to lower the pile and to help "distress" them. They then undergo a series of processes to remove the color. They are now ready to be dyed in one color, a stage that can be repeated several times to reach the desired saturation level and hues that complement and contrast the old. In addition to being unique and hand-knotted, these rugs make a very special statement about bridging generations of artisanal skill and knowledge over time. We recently ordered a rug from Kilim.com to replace one that we truly loved but that had become a tripping hazard after years of wear and tear. I ordered what I thought was the best match for a replacement. Shortly after placing my order, I got an email from Ida with additional photos of the rug I had selected, as she wanted to make sure that I was aware that the rug was a bit more green in undertone than had been reflected in the original photos. I told her what we were looking for and sent a couple of photos of the room where it was going and the rug we were looking to replace, and she sent a couple of other options they also had in similar sizes and colors. In the end, we decided to stick with our original choice, and it arrived in South Carolina from Istanbul just days later, true to the photos she had sent.
