Patchwork flatweave rug created from pieces of miscellaneous 30 – 80 years old hand-woven weavings. A new generation of artists in Istanbul utilize these semi-antique weavings after they have them cleaned and some of them dyed to their specifications to create a new art form. The weavings are cut into squares and other basic geometric forms and assembled in a pattern, backed with two layers of fabric to reinforce, sewn together and ironed. Their unique designs transform the nomadic craft into artwork ideally suited to contemporary settings at home or in offices.
